Deacons Committee Members: Chairman, Katharine Smith, Vice Chairman, Jean Dyer Yost, Secretary, Helene Scribner, Treasurer, Barbara Bucknam, Janis Taylor, Dorothy Buck, Gene Bucknam, Clara Mae Callward, Sally Chase, Dot Manske, Lois Parsons Donations: Thanks to the generosity of our church members, this committee is self-sufficient and donates to other community organizations in the area. Prayers: Requests for prayers are given to the minister, church Secretary and any Deacon committee member. The Chairman then activates, by computer or phone, the prayer chain list. Within minutes the members add the names to the prayer or confidential list. Daily prayers are given for shut ins, grieving families, and members of armed forces. The church Secretary works closely with the Chairman to update these lists for the bulletin and the Western Spire. These lists are not limited to Presbyterian members. Cards and Notes: Cards and notes are sent to the people on our prayer lists. Lois Parsons and Jean Dyer Yost write notes for the committee and individual members do their own handwritten messages. Handwritten notes are written for a special occasion , i.e. weddings, engagements, graduations, birthdays, etc. The handwritten notes are very valuable to the recipients. Visits: Deacons make personal contact with those in need of prayer and comfort. Altar flowers are distributed on a weekly basis. Poinsettias and Easter Lilies are distributed as gifts from the church. Tapes and Bulletins: Bob Kirchhoff (not a member of Deacons) tapes regular church services and special services (i.e. funerals). Dottie Buck takes responsibility for copying and delivering these tapes with the accompanying bulletins to those who are unable to attend service. Dottie does this project very conscientiously. Bulletin Board: Jean Dyer Yost has done a magnificent job with the Deacon's Bulletin Board, located across from Fellowship Hall. She maintains it with a monthly changing theme. Love Loaves: Deacons coordinate the distribution and collection of the Love Loaves under the able direction of the Bucknams. 70% of this collection is given to World Vision. The remaining is given to local food distributors (i.e. Food Pantries) Communion: Deacons are responsible for the preparation and clean up of the elements. Communion is served on the second Sunday of the month except on World Wide Communion the first Sunday of October, Maundy Thursday and the two Christmas Eve services. The Bucknams are the custodians of this ministry. They take the responsibility for the inventory of the supplies and the silver maintenance. Respectfully submitted,
